ROOM// inspiration

Primarily due to my current depressing lack of funds, I have temporarily abandoned fashion for a brief but very passionate affair with interior design inspiration in a bid to start proceedings on a bedroom makeover. If I could take all the elements of these pictures and jumble them together in a kind of decorating recipe experiment, I imagine the result would be pretty much my perfect room.

The first thing I'm going to attempt is definitely some kind of polaroid collage - possibly heart shaped in a direct copy of the first image - and a re-shuffle of the moodboard above my desk, now looking sadly inadequate after seeing these masterpieces. I'm also weighing up the merits of draped swathes of fabric over my bed - very pretty but possibly too impractical for me seeing as I generally tangle myself in my duvet trying to get up - more fabric could cause serious injury.

I'm always ok with fairylights, the more the better and I'm always looking for new and more intricate ways of incorporating them into the room, and I may attempt some form of plant life in a kind of indoor/outdoor way although the chances of the plant's survival are probably fairly slim - maybe plastic flowers would work better, I'm slightly obsessed with the 3D flower 'wallpaper' in the second to last image.

Main inspirations are the Lisbon sister's room in The Virgin Suicides, Margaux Lonnberg, the Secret Garden, Anthropologie stores and a general vintage, shabby chic aesthetic. Otherwise, lots and lots of candles, artfully placed trinkets, some edgy prints for the walls, vintage florals, piles of books and jewellery and a messy heap of blankets and cushions for a bed. And possibly some stag antlers on the wall.

Instagramming

Playing about with Instagram, an app recently downloaded to my iPhone which I am becoming a little bit obsessed with. Love the range of effects that can be overlayed onto photographs, including 'toaster', 'earlybird' and 'x-pro 2' which gives a lovely contrast and takes the colour saturation down just the right amount - so easy to create dreamy, romanticised images with a vintage edge.

Lust List// July

Things that I need in my life right now - scuffed to perfection snakeskin ankle boots with just the right amount of yeehaw about them, a beautifully boxy breton striped tee from Hope, sky blue Converse as seen here on Rumi Neely (pretty much a girl whose life I would like to actually steal), a gold Michael Kors watch, Erin's epic tattoos and basically everything in the amazing summer jewellery collection from Luv AJ - not so much jewellery as extremely beautiful weaponry.

I want the sunshine to enter my grey English life so that my freckles will come back.. my wanderlust today is almost overwhelming. I may read books on India all day to abate it.

Sometimes I just don't know...

Recently I have spent lots of time appreciating the beauty of the simplest things - probably due to my general lack of inspiration and subsequent thirst for visual stimulation - but nevertheless sometimes it's nice to just get back to basics.

Still no job as such, although I did have an interview this morning (fingers crossed) so plenty of time to get my life together and do lovely things like buy flowers and eat lots of cake. This period of freedom will prove to be, I feel, shortlived so I've decided to make the most of it while I can and embrace the uncertainty. Sometimes not knowing is the best way to find out.

Dirty Pretty Thing// Erin Wasson

For me, Erin Wasson is the ultimate embodiment of the nomadic Summer 2011 trend directions forming my dream summer wardrobe. Her effortless cool and grunge influenced glamour combine to create a look and an identity that evokes sun drenched desert landscapes, road trips and free hippy spirit with a hard edge - a true wayfarer. For summer I'll be following her lead with heavy silver and turquoise rings, braids and loose waves, frayed dirty denim, cowboy boots, studs, sequins and tie dye.
